Southampton v Liverpool Betting Tips: Will Reds get back to winning ways?
Published:
The latest round of Premier League action wraps up tonight as Southampton host Liverpool, with both sides looking to start 2021 a crucial win.
League leaders Liverpool have seen Manchester United draw level with them after two successive draws. Southampton haven’t been at their best either, going four games without a win. However, a win here would take Saints level on 29 points with fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s set up very nicely and we’ve previewed the action in our Southampton v Liverpool Betting Tips.
Match Odds
Despite their recent blip, Liverpool are 4/7 favourites for a seventh straight league win over Southampton.
Our traders have Southampton out at 17/4, while there’s 10/3 about the draw. Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side have played out two successive 0-0 draws, while Liverpool’s last game against Newcastle United also finished goalless. We go 20/1 that this one finishes 0-0 too.
On the other hand, each of the last four meetings between these sides have produced at least three goals. Liverpool and Over 2.5 Goals is going for 21/20.
Talking Tactics

Jannik Vestergaard is expected to miss out for the home side. Jack Stephens is set to replace the Dane at the back.
Danny Ings returned to the starting XI against West Ham United and will be looking forward to facing his former side, while Stuart Armstrong could come back in.
With Joel Matip unavailable for Liverpool, Nate Phillips is in line to continue alongside Fabinho in central defence.
Thiago has barely played for the Reds since his arrival, he’s in line to make just his second start for the club after returning from injury. His presence could add some extra zip to Liverpool’s passing. Georginio Wijnaldum should also return, with Jordan Henderson taking the third midfield spot.
The Liverpool front three should be as expected, with 13 days before their next league game.
Goalscorer Odds
Mohamed Salah got a brace in the last game between these two and he leads this season’s top scorer race with 13 strikes so far. Salah is 11/4 to open the scoring or 5/6 anytime.
Sadio Mane is 7/5 to score against his former club, with Roberto Firmino 9/4 to get on the scoresheet.
There’s no surprise that Ings leads the goalscorer markets for Southampton. He’s 11/2 as First Goalscorer or 15/8 to net at any point. His strike partner Che Adams is 14/5 to grab a goal.
