Southampton v Wolves betting tips and odds
Both teams had contrasting fortunes with penalty shoot-outs in the Carabao Cup during the week as they look to kickstart their Premier League seasons.
Southampton eliminated Sheffield United after the match had finished 2-2 at the end of 90 minutes, but Wolves were knocked out by Tottenham in the shoot-out.
Saints are 13/8 to secure their first win of the campaign, so let’s look at some of the other markets in our Southampton v Wolves betting tips.
Match Odds
Southampton were expected to struggle following the sales of Danny Ings and Jannik Vestergaard to Aston Villa and Leicester respectively, but they have drawn their last four games, holding both Manchester clubs and West Ham.
Another share of the spoils is priced at 11/5 and a third successive goalless draw is available at 8/1 as one of our Southampton v Wolves betting tips.
Wolves have lost four of their five games without scoring, a 2-0 victory at Brentford their only success, so with that in mind it may pay dividends to consider 10/11 on at least one team not scoring or it’s 4/6 on under 2.5 goals.

Wolves have only scored twice this season and are yet to find the net in the first half, so we go 6/4 on a goalless opening 45 minutes bearing in mind Saints have only scored twice during that period.
Despite the lack of goals in Wolves matches, both teams have scored in the last five meetings between the clubs, which is 10/11, and the visitors have won the last two.
Talking Tactics
Saints restricted Manchester City to just one shot on target in last week’s goalless draw and even that came in the 90th minute.
Ralph Hasenhuttl deployed a 4-4-2 at the Etihad with Adam Armstrong and Che Adams in attack, but defender Jack Stephens is likely to be out for three months with a knee injury sustained at the Etihad.
Wolves are without defender Yerson Mosquera who was carried off on a stretcher with a hamstring injury five minutes into his debut.
Goalscorer Odds
Armstong and Adams are 5/1 and 6/1 respectively to break the deadlock or 9/4 and 5/2 to score, while James Ward-Prowse is 17/2 and 7/2 in both markets in our Southampton v Wolves betting tips.
Former Blackburn striker Armstrong is also 7/2 to find the net in a Southampton win and it’s 22/1 on him scoring the only goal of the game.
Wolves are struggling for goals under Lage and we go 2/1 on Raul Jimemez to bag his first goal of the season and it’s 8/1 on Adama Traore to bag the opener, although we have boosted his odds on scoring from 3/1 to 7/2.
