Celtic lead Birmingham in Deadline Day race for Bristol City star

| 31.08.2017

Celtic could be set for a huge boost on Transfer Deadline Day, with the Hoops having emerged as the frontrunners to sign Bristol City centre-back Aden Flint.

The Robins lynchpin has been linked with a host of clubs south of the border this summer, most strongly Birmingham City.

But despite sustained interest from the West Midlands club, Celtic have now emerged at 5/4 favourites to wrap up a deal before the window closes tonight.

Flint has established a reputation as one of the EFL Championship’s best centre-halves. The Pinxton native didn’t miss a minute of the Robins’ league campaign last term, scoring five goals and helping City to 12 clean sheets along the way.

The defender’s power, aerial threat and reliability have caught the eye of Brendan Rodgers, and the Bhoys’ focus on Flint is bad news for fans of Birmingham City.

Blues have already tabled a (rejected) £3.5m bid for the player. However, even if they up the stakes, it’s the Hoops who look more likely to snap up Flint, with the English side currently 11/8 in this market.
