Ladbrokes Premiership: Kilmarnock and Hearts to dish up goals

Published:

The New Year is here and is set to start with a bang as far as the Ladbrokes Premiership is concerned.

With Aberdeen and Celtic locked together at the top of the league the old cliché that it’s still all to play for has rarely been more apt at this point in recent campaigns.

The Bhoys are top on goal difference and will look to cement their position at home to an in-form Partick Thistle, while Aberdeen, themselves unbeaten in five, will hope to jump on any slip by Ronny Deila’s men when the travel to take on St Johnstone.

While the title race is full of intrigue, however, it is in Kilmarnock where the best of the action can be expected on January 2.

Here’s our rundown of the weekend’s top flight action…

Kilmarnock v Hearts

Kilmarnock head into this game having won just one of their last five and while Hearts can also only claim one win in that run they are unbeaten in three and fancied for the win here.

Regardless of who claims the points, though, history suggests a high scoring affair with over 4.5 goals netted in three of the last four meetings.

Best Bet: Over 4.5 goals @ 4/1

Celtic v Partick Thistle

Celtic may top the table but with no wins in four games in-form Partick will think the champions are there for the taking.

The Bhoys may have won the last five meetings without conceding and not lost to the Jags since 1995, but with Thistle unbeaten in six, winning four of those games, an away win could well be on the cards.

Best Bet: Partick to win @ 9/1

Inverness CT v Ross County

With both sides in fairly good form this is a tough one to call, especially with County ending a run of six games without a win in this fixture with a 2-1 victory last time out.

While the game itself is a hard one to call it approaches banker territory as far as the both teams to score market goers, with both sides netting in seven of the last eight meetings.

Best Bet: BTTS @ 7/10

Motherwell v Hamilton

What a difference a couple of weeks can make. Motherwell were fully involved in the relegation scrap not long ago but three successive wins puts them a point outside the top six and Mark McGhee’s men look set to plough on this weekend.

Hamilton have lost four on the bounce and with only one side scoring in the last 12 meetings a win to nil for the home side should tempt.

Best Bet: Motherwell to win to nil @ 5/2

St Johnstone v Aberdeen

Aberdeen were soundly beaten 5-1 by the Saints as recently as October but Derek McInnes’ men have bounced back in style and will be out for revenge this time around.

Saints have won just one of their last four and with the Dons in rude health going into this tie the away side should be too good for their hosts here.

Best Bet: Aberdeen (-1) to win @ 13/5
