Rangers v Celtic: Expect tight affair as Glasgow giants meet

Published:

With Rangers having won their last five games at Ibrox, and Celtic having dropped points just once in the Ladbrokes Premiership this season, something will have to give as the pair meet at the Gers home on Saturday.

However, neither defence is likely to be too generous in their last fixture of 2016.

Mark Warburton’s side have let in just seven goals in their last 10 league outings, while the Hoops record is even better during that period, shipping just six in the top-tier.

And Brendan Rodgers’ men look unlikely to give up that impressive record against a Gers outfit who are comfortably the lowest scorers in the league’s top four – with just 27 goals from 20 games.

That means the 3/1 for this clash to produce under 1.5 goals looks like a superb selection, as does the Evens for under 2.5. Especially so as the last meeting between these two produced a solitary goal.

There could also be value in backing against both teams to score at 11/10. Seven of the last twelve clashes have ended goalless or with just one side finding the net, while four of the Hoops last five league games have been won to nil.

However, despite the fact we’re tipping up a low-scoring affair, there could be plenty of value in backing a certain Moussa Dembele to find the net.

The French hitman scored the opening goal in each of the last two meetings between these clubs, and looks well-priced to do so again at 7/2 here. Meanwhile, there’s Evens on offer for the 20-year-old to net anytime this weekend.

Having won the last two meetings, Celtic look to have the edge on their opponents, but the fairly sizeable price for a draw means that could prove to be a very savvy bet.

The Hoops are 8/11 favourites for victory, with Rangers 7/2 for the win and 14/5 on offer for honours even.
