Spurs to pay Richards close attention after Man Utd interest
Published:
Tottenham may have a decision to make in the summer should the reported interest from Manchester United in right-back Kyle Walker translate into a firm bid, especially if it’s in the speculated ball park of £20m.
As he was sidelined right up until mid December through injury, Mauricio Pochettino is only just starting to see the best of Walker in a white shirt as the Argentine prepares his squad for the visit of Fiorentina in the Europa League knockout stage.
Pochettino is sure to be calling the on-pitch shots for his 11/10 favourites against the Italians, however, the man who resides in the director’s box rather than the dug-out at White Hart Lane is known to hold court where transfers are concerned.
Regardless of his talent, commanding such a fee for a player Tottenham snapped up as a youngster is likely to represent a red rag to a bull for Daniel Levy, especially if he can squeeze a few extra digits out of any deal for Walker.
Where this latest revelation is concerned the timing of Fiorentina’s visit couldn’t be more apt.
Within the Viola’s ranks is a man Walker has previously been in direct competition against for the England right-back spot.
On-loan from Manchester City, Micah Richards is likely to be in the starting XI to face the Lilywhites and after a candid interview with the Telegraph in the build up to the Europa League clash, he’s stated his time at the Etihad is over.
Tempted to stay in Italy, though the powerful full-back has been in and out of the team, Richards is also wide open to the prospect of a return to the Premier League and dreams of an England recall.
He could well be starting the audition process in north London.
