St Johnstone v Aberdeen: In-form visitors tipped for Perth success

Published:

Despite losing four and drawing one of their five Scottish Premiership fixtures between mid-September and the end of October, Aberdeen sit joint-top of the table with Celtic, seven points ahead of third-placed Hearts, although Derek McInnes’ side have played more games than both.

The Dons’ strong position stems from a recent run of eight matches without a loss, five of which have ended in wins for McIness and co – including last time out on the road against struggling Kilmarnock, who they trounced 4-0.

Fourth-placed St Johnstone will be a tougher prospect on their own patch, although Tommy Wright’s men have taken just five points from their last available 15, tasting victory just once at home since the end of September.

The Saints may have walloped their visitors 5-1 at Pittodrie two months ago, but that result seemed to shake Aberdeen out of their malaise and towards the rich run of form they’re currently experiencing.

Ladbrokes price up the visitors at just about odds on at 11/10 to gain the win they’ll need to keep pace with Celtic, who are 2/9 to beat Partick at home this weekend. The double pays out at just over 6/4.

The bookies also roll out their Double Odds 1st Goalscorer offer for this televised clash, meaning you’ll get twice the price if your pick breaks the deadlock within the first 25 minutes.

With two such opening goals in Aberdeen’s past two away matches, both of which have been resounding wins, Niall McGinn has to be the value to do so again at 13/2.

Teammate Adam Rooney takes a lot out of the market at 7/2, after bagging eight times in his past 10 matches, but the Irishman hasn’t managed an away opener since the end of August.

With four strikes in his past five outings, two of which have been away openers and three Aberdeen’s first goal in their respective matches, McGinn fits the bill for this bet.
