St Johnstone v Rangers: Gers odds-on in McDiarmid Park goalfest
Published:
After a two-week absence for the international break, the Ladbrokes Premiership returns to action with a mouth-watering top of the table clash.
Can Rangers make it two wins on the spin? Or will St Johnstone arrest a run of one win in five back on home soil at McDiarmid Park?
Well, if the previous meetings are anything to go by, we’re expecting an away win in this one.
Rangers went unbeaten in four fixtures against the Saints last season, including claiming a 2-1 victory on their most recent visit to Perthshire.
The odds reflect the Gers’ recent superiority. Pedro Caixinha’s side are 6/10 to walk away with all three points. Meanwhile, St Johnstone are 9/2 to beat Rangers at home for the first time since 2009, with the draw at 29/10.
One thing we are expecting is for the visitors to get out of the blocks early.
The Ibrox side have had the lead at half-time in four of their most recent five games.
We go 6/5 for that scenario to unfold yet again.
Something else that has also caught our eye is both sides’ propensity for scoring and conceding goals.
In total, Rangers’ Ladbrokes Premiership games have seen 28 goals this season. By contrast, St Johnstone’s fixtures have produced a total of 23 strikes.
With those kinds of stats, we think that the 5/6 for Both Teams to Score is one to consider.
If you fancy doubling up and following the form guide, why not take on Rangers to Win and Both Teams to Score at 23/10?
Delving a little deeper, we reckon there are two obvious choices where the Goalscorer market is concerned.
For the visitors, Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos has been in sparkling form. Since joining from HJK Helsinki in the summer, the 21-year-old has already netted four times for the Glasgow side.
He’s 11/10 to find the net Anytime, while it’s a tasty 10/3 that he bags the first goal of the contest.
As for the hosts, the onus will fall on Steve MacLean, with Michael O’Halloran unable to play against his parent club.
MacLean has three goals so far this campaign and is a cool 5/2 to add to his tally under the lights at McDiarmid Park.
