With the Black Cats preparing for their first Premier League season since 2017, Ladbrokes looks at special Sunderland bets and odds, with unique markets.

After securing promotion through the play-offs thanks to a stoppage-time winner at Wembley, Sunderland are finally back where they feel they belong - but staying there won't be easy.

From relegation odds to special bets around their first few games, Sunderland feature in a number of different Premier League betting markets as they look to become the first side to stay up after winning the play-offs since Nottingham Forest in 2023.

Last season, play-off winners Southampton only picked up their first Premier League victory at the 10th attempt, and Ladbrokes predicts that Sunderland's season could start in similar fashion.

The Black Cats are just 5/2 to fail to win any of their first six matches, which would not only be a disastrous start, but would also give them concerns of setting one of the lowest Premier League points totals of all time.

Despite not playing a single Champions League side inside their opening six matches, Sunderland have a difficult run to kick-off the campaign, facing West Ham on the opening weekend of the 2025/26 PL season.

• Nottingham Forest (A)

The bookies are also taking bets on Sunderland to stay up, with their chances currently priced at 9/4.

In order to achieve survival, Sunderland would have to become the first promoted side since 2023 to avoid relegation, when Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest all managed to stay up.

The Black Cats will have to overcome a difficult run-in in April and May, and will need to be on the right side of a few Premier League upsets if they are to stay clear of danger.

In home games, the Stadium of Light is bound to play a huge part this season, with a fierce atmosphere and intense optimism driving the players on to achieve something special - and we're certain to get a taste of it when they face West Ham on the opening day.

On the other side of the coin, however, Sunderland are the pre-season favourites to be relegated in the 2025/26 Premier League season, with their odds of dropping back to the Championship currently priced at just 1/4.

Burnley and Leeds, who both achieved promotion with 100 points last season, are also among the favourites for the drop, with the Premier League becoming tougher to crack for any team coming from the second tier.

The likes of Wolves and Brentford also find themselves among the front-runners to go down in the 25/26 season, with key departures including Matheus Cunha and Thomas Frank harming their respective chances of survival.

While champions Liverpool are favourites to retain their title, there are also odds for Sunderland to do the unthinkable and win the 2025/26 Premier League, with the Black Cats currently priced at 1000/1 to upset all the odds and lift the trophy in May.
