Support for Conservatives in Barnsley despite Gough’s no-ball

Published:

The Conservatives have been backed by Ladbrokes political punters to beat their coalition partners in Barnsley Central.

Following the news that Darren Gough has turned down the chance to stand in his local constituency the Conservatives have been cut from 11/10 to 8/11 to beat the Liberal Democrats in the by-election.

The Lib Dems drift from 4/6 favourites to evens as punters look for an easier to back option than 1/33 favourites Labour.

Darren Gough now also drifts to 50/1 to become an MP before 2020 from his opening quote of 33/1.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Despite Gough rejecting Cameron’s call to arms our punters feel that the Tories can get the better of their coalition partners here. Considering the extraordinary effort it would take to overhaul Labour in this seat the focus remains on the race for the silver medal.”
