Swansea City website ‘hack’ ups ante ahead of Cardiff clash

They say that ‘he who laughs last, laughs longest’ and for Cardiff City fans the current amusement generated by images from the ‘hacked’ Swansea City website could soon give way to sadness if the visitors live up to their billing as 13/10 favourites for the win.

Social media was alive with talk of the offending page earlier today, which appeared to reveal that the ‘fans’ section of the official Swans website had been subject to some rather colourful alterations.

Though not officially confirmed, the snapshot taken of the site is newsworthy in itself as a mystery group or individual, most likely a Cardiff supporter, takes the opportunity to insult their club’s most hated rivals ahead of the upcoming Premier League clash between the pair.

Highly offensive in the most part, the web page is littered with insults directed towards Swans fans or as they are termed on the edited site, “scummers”.

The words “smelly” and “inbred” are also both used in connection with the supporters of the Capital One Cup holders – and that’s just the clean stuff.

Arguably the biggest slap in the face to followers of the Swans comes in the “Q+A” segment of the webpage, where the offending party takes the opportunity to post the query: “Why are we a smaller club than Cardiff?”

It all adds up to an amusing, if potentially regrettable prank, which could backfire on an out-of-form Cardiff side, who remain at odds of 2/1 for the win, despite the game taking place on home soil.

Bluebirds fans will have painful memories of the Swans last trip to the Cardiff City Stadium back in 2010, a game that ended in a 1-0 defeat to the old enemy.

Another loss here could prove particularly galling, with Malky Mackay’s team already in danger of being eclipsed by Swansea as the biggest club in Wales, given the latter’s cup success last term and current European endeavours.

Cardiff, by contrast, remain a team in turmoil, with owner Vincent Tan continuing to anger fans.

And on the pitch results have been poor with the Blues heading into this one without a win in three at home and just a single victory to their name from their last five fixtures.

Throw in the fact Swansea have won two of their last three Premier League away games and it could well be the visitors that are left smiling come the final whistle.
