The Safety Net: French Open finalist Schiavone can hit target
Published:The Safety Net is back up and running following three consecutive winners after a dodgy couple of days last week, and we’re sticking with tennis today.
Tomas Berdych strolled to our £20 target yesterday with a 7-6, 6-0 demolition job over Juan Monaco and the Safety Net bank now sits at a very healthy £399.
While the ATP Tour has proved profitable to us in the Safety Net, we’re turning out attentions to the WTA Tour and the women’s draw of the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati.
Francesca Schiavone and Maria Kirilenko will take to the Cincinnati hard courts at around 4pm this afternoon and we really fancy the Italian former French Open winner to come away with the victory.
Schiavone hasn’t played much tennis since her 2011 French Open final appearance after a disappointing Wimbledon and that told in Toronto last week when she suffered a third round exit to Lucie Safarova.
However the Italian is ranked 18 places higher than the admittedly improving Kirilenko, but the Kirlienko has struggled in recent weeks and Schiavone should have too much for her.
Five times the two players have met and four times Schiavone has won – the only time Kirilenko emerged victorious was during a clash in Seoul in 2009 when Schiavone had to retire hurt.
A loss to Flavia Pennetta last week coupled with an injury in Carlsbad a fortnight ago means Kirilenko doesn’t come to Cincinnati in the best of shape and Schiavone can hit our £20 target today.
At 4/7 to win, we’re staking £35 on Schiavone winning today in order to reach our £20 target for the day.
Current Status
Bank: £399
Today’s stake: £35
Best case scenario: £419
Worst case scenario: £364
Last Safety Net bet: Tomas Berdych beat Juan Monaco @ 1/4
Wealth warning: although we are confident the safety net bet’s strategy will be profitable over a period of time, the nature of sport means we cannot guarantee you will win every single time.
