Top five sporting picks for #NationalBettingDay

Published:

This Saturday has been christened #NationalBettingDay with the day of the Grand National historically the biggest gambling day of the year.

You might like a cheeky acca at the weekend but everyone from your sister to your great Aunt Pat will be having a punt on Saturday.

And we’ll be ramping up the excitement with a host of fantastic offers and timely Price Boosts for the big race and more besides.

After all the Grand National isn’t the only major event taking place this Saturday. Here’s our rundown of the top action and the best bets to consider.

Grand National

With the Aintree ground set to be good-to-soft this weekend the betting suggests a two-horse race between The Last Samuri (9/1) and Many Clouds (7/1). The former is trained by Kim Bailey who has won the race before with Mr Frisk in 1990, while the latter turns up as the reigning champion. However, the National hasn’t been successfully defended since Red Rum in 1974 so the value could lie with Bailey’s charge

Best Bet: The Last Samuri @ 9/1

Anthony Joshua v Charles Martin

Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua vies for the IBF Heavyweight world title in just his 16th professional fight. His opponent, champion Charles Martin, is undefeated like AJ and with 21 knockouts from his 24 wins will prove a step up for the Brit. Despite this AJ goes into the fight as the 2/9 favourite but those odds can be boosted by backing another stoppage for the Watford man.

Bet Bet: Joshua – Rounds 7-12 @ 7/2

West Ham v Arsenal

West Ham can leapfrog the two Manchester clubs into the top four and all but end Arsenal’s faint hopes of winning the league with a win in the lunch-time game at Upton Park on Saturday. The Hammers are unbeaten in six games and in Dimitri Payet boast arguably the most in-form player not wearing a Leicester shirt. The Frenchman could likely prove the difference in the London derby.

Best Bet: West Ham to win @ 13/5

Manchester City v West Brom

The Sky Blues remain just a single point above neighbours Manchester United and will be desperate for a win in the race to secure a top four spot. They face a much-improved Baggies outfit this weekend, however, with Tony Pulis’ men losing just one of their last six Premier League outings. City will be confident though after netting exactly three goals in each of their last five meetings with Albion.

Best Bet: Home Team Goals – Over 2.5 @ 5/4

Motherwell Celtic

Celtic may top the Ladbrokes Premiership but they face a trip to the league’s form side in Motherwell, with Mark McGhee’s men winning each of their last five games. The Bhoys, however, have won three of the last four meetings without conceding a goal and will fancy their chances of swatting Well aside.

Best Bet: Celtic to win to nil @ 11/10
