Nina Carberry talks about missing her dance partner this week, the standard Erica Cody has set, and the nerves around the first elimination in her latest Ladbrokes blog

My dance partner Pasquale got a little bit ill this week so he wasn’t able to train with me, so I am hoping with a bit of luck he is ok and he is back with me for Sunday. The preparations haven’t been ideal without him obviously, but I know the routine and the dance which he has taught me very well. I have been practising with another choreographer from the show who knows my dance so he has helped me brush up on the rumba technique. Whatever happens, I will be ready and that is thanks to Pasquale.

“You have to take what you get sometimes and make the best of the situation”

I doubt the judges will take the situation into consideration though, they will judge me on what they see on the night. I will try and do my best and it is a competition at the end of the day. You have to take what you get sometimes and make the best of the situation.

I am feeling the nerves and obviously having Pasquale this week would have been reassuring but I need to get over that. At least I am not going in for my first dance and I have had a little bit of experience. My first dance was a much faster tempo, whereas the rumba is very technical and slow so everything has to be right. Technically this is a harder dance.

“Erica Cody topped the leaderboard with an incredible score and that does edge you on I suppose”

It was fantastic to watch the other six dancers last weekend and enjoy it because I wasn’t dancing myself. The standard was so high across the board. It is going to be hard to keep the standard high and I will have to up my game now. Erica Cody topped the leaderboard with an incredible score and that does edge you on I suppose. She looked incredible so it won’t be easy to get to that standard but I will try and with the dances coming quicker you have to learn fast. I will give it a go anyway.

I would hate to see someone not do well on the show, but obviously you hope yourself that you dance well too. There is definitely friendly rivalry, but at the same time you don’t want anyone to be disappointed.

“I will dance the best I can, and hopefully people at home will vote”

It is the first elimination this week which is at the back of my mind. Someone has to go so it will be sad for whoever that is. None of us want to leave the competition, I will dance the best I can, and hopefully people at home will vote. You just don’t know if people will vote, you can only hope!
