Twitter reacts as Sunderland beat Man Utd
Published:
Sunderland have only won three matches at home all season and haven’t beaten Manchester United on their own turf since 1997, but that has all changed.
The Mackems emerged with a 2-1 victory against the 13-time Premier League champions in their latest encounter to give their chances of survival a real boost.
A David De Gea own goal decided the match after Anthony Martial had cancelled out Wahbi Khazri’s earlier effort and the Red Devils remain six points behind the top four.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Well played Sunderland ☺☺☺

That was the worst Sunderland side #mufc have faced in 10 years but they deserved it. Van Gaal’s in-game management poor all season.

De Gea was obviously a focus of a lot of social media attention following his own goal.
@WestHam_Central Forster, Lloris, Butland, Adrian, Cech, Hart, Courtois & probably even Fabianski, are all performing way better than de Gea

It’s funny how rival fans only talk about De Gea when he makes a mistake, yet don’t say anything when he makes great saves.

De Gea has more league goals than Hazard.

Another United player to get a lot of attention was 21-year-old Donald Love, with the Scottish youngster making his debut the day before Valentines day.
Donald Love looks v comfortable on the ball. You can’t hurry love…

37′ A Valentine’s weekend debut for United’s Donald Love, previously on loan at Wigan

“Nothing drives down real estate prices like a good old fashioned gang war.” Great to see GTA III’s Donald Love on the bench today.

The result left Sunderland fans in a joyous move as they have a real chance of getting out of trouble.
Huuuuuugeeee!!! 3 points! #safc

However, Guardian journalist Jonathan Wilson took a less than positive spin on proceedings.
I know I’m habitually downbeat, but the last twice Sunderland have beaten United 2-1 at home, they’ve been relegated.
