West Ham star’s comments suggest January move could be on the cards

West Ham United haven’t got off to the kind of start that their fans will have expected following an incredible campaign last time out. Sitting rather uncomfortably in 16th-place, they’re in danger of losing some of the key mean that shone last year. Of course, a certain Dimitri Payet falls within that bracket.
The 29-year-old spoke to Telefoot in France on the subject of his future, and he reportedly said:
“We’ve had a very poor start. Leave in January? I’m asking other questions right now but I’ve closed the door to nothing.”
So where might he be heading?
In truth, it may not be very far, as there are several clubs in the Premier League that could do with Payet’s services.
Take Tottenham Hotspur for example. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have struggled for goals this season, netting just 15 in their opening 11, failing to find the net from open play in their last six games in all competitions, too.
Payet’s creativity in the number 10 role would certainly be welcomed at White Hart Lane, but after signing a new contract at West Ham in the summer, Spurs will have to part with at least £50m for his services.
There was serious interest in the summer for his signature from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, and they could certainly do with him right now.
Amazingly, Unai Emery’s side are six points off the top of the table, although they do have a game in hand over the league leaders Nice.
They’ve only managed 20 goals so far this season in 11 games. A poor return considered they’ve blitzed this division for the last four years.
Granted, they had Zlatan Ibrahimovic playing up-front for them then, whereas it’s now Edinson Cavani who’s the main man. He’s already grabbed 10 goals in as many league games since August, and it’s frightening to think what his tally could be if he was playing off Payet.
For the Hammers, it’s quite simple: if they continue to drop points at the rate in which they have been doing recently, they can say goodbye to their star player.
