What we've learned so far from the 24/25 Premier League season

Ladbrokes runs you through some of the most interesting things we've learned so far from the 2024/25 Premier League season.
We're heading into the second international break of the season, and the table is beginning to take place, with Arne Slot's Liverpool sitting at the top following the first seven games.
We kick off our feature talking about the Reds, and the incredible defenced that Slot has put together between Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk, which has only conceded two league goals so far.
What we've learned from the 2024/25 Premier League season so far
5. Liverpool's incredible defence
Heading into the season, many fans had little doubts about Liverpool's attack, but it was their defence which concerned a portion of fans and pundits. However, the Reds have been incredibly defensively solid in the opening seven games of the season.
Liverpool have conceded just two goals so far this season, a long-range screamed from Callum Hudson-Odoi against Nottingham Forest, and a finish from Rayan Ait-Nouri against Wolves which came from a mix-up between defence and goalkeeper.
The incredible partnership between Konate and Van Dijk seems to possess everything a top centre-back duo needs, both from an on-the-ball perspective and a defensive one too.
It remains to be seen whether or not Liverpool can keep up their good results, but if they are to challenge for the Premier League title, which they're one of the favourites to win, then their defence will be pivotal to that.
4. Cole Palmer is no one season wonder
The first few games of the 2024/25 Premier League season have taught us a lot about Chelsea, in particular their star man Cole Palmer.
Palmer scored over 20 goals in his first season at Chelsea last season, but many felt those numbers would dry up in his second campaign at the club, but that isn't what's happened.
The former Man City player has six goals and five assists in just seven Premier League games so far this season, with Enzo Maresca's system getting the very best out of Palmer, just as Mauricio Pochettino's did last term.
In fact, if we remove Erling Haaland from the equation, Palmer is the favourite to win the Golden Boot come May 2025, proving that he's no longer a top prospect, and certainly not a one season wonder, but one of the very best players in the league right now.
3. Erik ten Hag needs to go
From two rather positive entries to a more negative one, we look at the managerial situation at Man United right now, with it seemingly more and more likely than Erik ten Hag needs to be sacked.
The first seven games of the season have seen Man United lose 3-0 at home to both Liverpool and Tottenham, which is one of the key reasons why Ten Hag is the favourite to be the first PL manager to lose his job this season.
INEOS firmly backed the Dutchman in the transfer window, bringing in a top six in Manuel Ugarte as well as two players he worked with previously at Ajax, but nothing seems to have fixed the issues at the club.
At this stage, it really seems like Ten Hag's days in one of the biggest managerial jobs in the world are numbered, and it may be best for INEOS to look for other options before things continue to get worse.

2. Arsenal are the real deal
The first few games of the Premier League have not been easy for Arsenal for a variety of reasons, but they're now considered the favourites over Man City to win the title come May of next year.
Martin Odegaard has missed the majority of the campaign so far with injury, as has Mikel Merino, with Riccardo Calafiori, Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Ben White also spending time on the sidelines due to either injury or suspension.
However, despite that, Arsenal remain unbeaten in their first seven games, having drawn with City and beaten North London rivals Tottenham. Mikel Arteta's side, despite their setbacks, are just one one point behind league leaders Liverpool.
If Arsenal are to win the title this season, which they're favourites to do, they'll have to have matured and developed mentally quite considerably since they begun challenging City, which it seems they really have done.
1. Man City will struggle
Every year, football fans question whether Man City have enough to win the Premier League, but they always manage to pull it out of the bag when it matters and cross the line.
They've won four of the last four Premier League titles, and despite being the favourites walking into the 2024/25 campaign, we think they may be pipped to the post come May of next year.
The injury to Rodri will be a major blow for Pep Guardiola and co this season, with the star midfielder having been key to City's recent Premier League and Champions League triumphs.
City are going to be a lot weaker defensively without Rodri, and with their being so little to separate the reigning Champions from their two title rivals, we think this is the year where they may be beaten to the Premier League come May 2025.
