Wimbledon women: Sabalenka favourite after Jabeur ousts champion Rybakina

Jabeur 9/4 second favourite in Wimbledon women’s odds
Aryna Sabalenka is the new 7/5 favourite to win Wimbledon after defending champion Elena Rybakina lost to Ons Jabeur in Wednesday’s quarter-final.
The match went to three sets just like last year’s final but this time Jabeur came out on top and the Tunisian is now 2/1 for a maiden grand slam ahead of her semi-final with Sabalenka, who had earlier defeated Madison Keys in straight sets.
Elena Svitolina and Marketa Vondrousova are the outsiders as we look at the latest Wimbledon women’s odds.
Aryna Sabalenka
Sabalenka’s pursuit of a first Wimbledon title remains on course after her demolition of Madison Keys in the quarter-final.
The Belarusian, who was banned from last year’s tournament, is making up for lost time and was too strong for Keys on Court One, winning 6-2 6-4.
With Iga Swiatek being knocked out on Tuesday she will now have her sights on the Venus Rosewater dish after booking a second semi-final appearance in SW19.
Chances: Sabalenka beat Jabeur in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in 2021, but the Tunisian won their last encounter at the WTA Finals, so it could be a close match.
Ons Jabeur
Jabeur gained revenge with victory over defending champion Rybakina in a rematch of last year’s Wimbledon final.
The sixth seed, who also lost to Swiatek in the US Open final last year, will take on second seed Sabalenka in the last four after fighting from a set down to defeat Rybakina 6-7 (5) 6-4 6-1.
Jabeur missed a set point in the opening set but fought back impressively, hitting more winners and making fewer errors than her opponent, who has established a fledgling big three in the women’s game this season with Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek.
Chances: Jabeur’s variety proved too much for Rybakina and similar tactics could prove Sabalenka’s undoing.
Elina Svitolina
Svitolina is rapidly turning into the darling of Wimbledon after following a remarkable win against Victoria Azarenka with another three-sets success against world number one Swiatek.
The wildcard only had her first child in October, but still reached the quarter-finals of the French Open and is now on course for a first grand slam title.
Chances: Has lost her last two matches against semi-final opponent Marketa Vondrousova but still leads 3-2 in the head to head so it could be another close one.
Marketa Vondrousova
Vondrousova has taken out four seeds en route to the semi-finals and the 2019 French Open finalist has been slashed from 28/1 to 6/1 following her win against fourth seed Jessia Pegula in the last eight.
The American looked poised to progress to the maiden grand slam singles semi-final of her career having overturned a one-set deficit to lead 3-1 in the decider.
But, due to forecasted rain, the contest was halted for around 23 minutes to allow the roof on Court One to be closed and Vondrousova returned to win five of the next six games to progress 6-4 2-6 6-4.
Chances: A place in the final is within touching distance, although another three-set battle looks on the cards.
