Wolves and Warriors ensure late drama in tight Super League round

It was a weekend of tight matches and dramatic finishes in the latest round of Super League action.
Two of the six games were settled by a single point – one with the final kick of the game – while another two ties were won by six or less points.
The first game of the weekend came on Thursday night and brought us undoubtedly the most dramatic and exciting of all the round’s clashes as Warrington secured a 31-30 win over Salford thanks to a 40-metre drop-goal from Chris Sandow right on the final hooter.
Salford had looked incredibly impressive in the first half, taking a 28-12 lead into the break before adding a penalty to stretch their advantage to 18 points.
But the Wolves fought back with three converted tries before Sandow sealed a remarkable comeback with an equally remarkable one-pointer to make it four wins from four for Warrington.
The second one-point ball game came at the KC Stadium on Friday as Wigan maintained their 100% record thanks to a 26-25 win over Hull FC.
Again the game was settled by a late drop-goal, this time Wigan’s Matty Smith did the honours with 105 seconds left on the clock after Marc Sneyd cancelled out his earlier effort.
Elsewhere on Friday, Leeds finally got their first win of the season, beating winless and injury-hit Huddersfield 20-16 at Headingley. It had looked like the Giants were going to be the side celebrating their first win of the season, but Jimmy Keinhorst’s effort was given the green light by the video referee to move Leeds off bottom spot.
Another close-run contest came at Langtree Park as St Helens came from 14-6 down to beat Castleford 28-22 in another epic clash between the two sides.
Meanwhile, Widnes moved back to the top of Super League thanks to a 30-16 victory over Hull KR, recovering from 14-12 down to post their fourth win in five games.
In the final game of the round, Catalans Dragons’ blistering start against Wakefield went a long way to helping them to their first away win of the season.
Australian international half-back Todd Carney was inspirational as the Dragons raced into a 26-0 lead in the first half, and despite a fightback from the Wildcats, the French outfit put the tie to bed with three second-half tries.
