World Matchplay darts double: Tight Taylor and Wade ties tipped

Published:

It pays to stick with news.ladbrokes during the World Matchplay darts, with a handicap double that payed out just shy of 5/2 landed thanks to Michael van Gerwen’s heart-stopping 16-13 victory over Ian White, along with Peter Wright’s 16-7 cruise against Gerwyn Price.

We’ve gone back to the well at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens ahead of the next batch of last-eight shootouts, with a 23/10 double put up for punting perusal:

Mensur Suljovic (+5.5) to beat James Wade @ 8/11

Serbia-born Suljovic, who flies the flag of his adopted country Austria, stunned the darts world by beating Triple Crown-chasing Scot Garry Anderson in the last round, but the 43-year-old had served notice of his form in recent months.

No first-round loser managed as high an average during last December’s PDC World Championship, where Suljovic went out to Phil Taylor’s 2014 conqueror Michael Smith, and he holds a fine head-to-head record against Wade, winning three of their five clashes including earlier this month in Wigan.

Add in his 13-9 win over Anderson and Suljovic seems mispriced to at least keep it close.

Dave Chisnall (+3.5) to beat Phil Taylor @ 10/11

Evidence of the Power’s waning…powers can be seen in his record against Chisnall; having lost just two of 14 clashes with the Morecambe-based flinger between October 2013 and February this year, Taylor has only won one of three such matches since.

After battling back from 7-4 down to see off improving youngster Keegan Brown last time out, and having got to within three legs of the 14-time PDC World Champion in their last first-to-16 fixture at last November’s Grand Slam of Darts, Chisnall on the handicap looks a fair price at just under evens.
