World Matchplay Day 6 Tips: Can Anderson continue Blackpool charge?

The quarter-final stage of the World Matchplay gets going tonight between four players who will all have eyes on winning the £115,000 first prize.
Tournament favourites Michael van Gerwen and Rob Cross are already out of the competition. That means Gary Anderson is the new man to beat, as he takes on Joe Cullen this evening.
In the other quarter-final, two-time giant slayer Jeffrey de Zwaan meets Dave Chisnall.
We’ve previewed both of tonight’s titanic tungsten tussles below…
Jeffrey de Zwaan v Dave Chisnall (7:15pm)
Underestimate Jeffrey de Zwaan (13/10) at your peril. The Dutch dynamo has already beaten double world champions Adrian Lewis and Michael van Gerwen in this year’s competition.
Now he has Dave Chisnall (8/13) in his sights. Chizzy has started slowly in both of his matches so far before eventually winning through with dominant leg-winning streaks.
He may not enjoy the same luxury against the uber-consistent de Zwaan, who has shown gradual improvement in his first and second round appearances at the Winter Gardens.
St Helens native Chisnall should at least dominate his opponent in the maximums market. The 37-year-old chalked up ten in the last round versus six for the Dutchman. He’s 8/15 to edge that battle tonight.
Regardless, both players have show proficiency in terms of scoring and finishing. We go 9/4 for there to be 18+ match 180s and a highest checkout over 137 points.
Joe Cullen v Gary Anderson (8:45pm)
In MVG’s absence, Gary Anderson has been installed as the even-money favourite for the Matchplay.
And it’s easy to see why. The Flying Scotsman hit five 180s, achieved 47% on his doubles and chalked up a 104.17 average in his heavyweight clash with Raymond van Barneveld on Tuesday.
Joe Cullen, by contrast, is in near uncharted territory. This is only The Rockstar’s second quarter-final appearance in 28 PDC major events and his first since 2016.
The 29-year-old appears to have added an extra layer of consistency to his game but will need to step it up once again if he’s to edge past Ando on the seaside.
Cullen is 4/1 to spring a shock against Anderson (1/6), who will provide much more of a test than the off colour Daryl Gurney in the last round.
The Scotsman also holds all of the cards when it comes to scoring, finish and consistency, and can be backed at 11/8 to win the match as King of the Oche.
Anderson is also even-money on the -2.5 Handicap, while it’s 10/11 for there to be Over 15.5 Maximums in the match.
