Xabi Alonso odds: Leverkusen boss favourite for BOTH Liverpool & Bayern Munich jobs
Published:
Xabi Alonso odds have the Spaniard as the favourite for BOTH the Bayern Munich and Liverpool managerial jobs ahead of next season, according to the bookies.
The Bayer Leverkusen manager is unbeaten with his side in the Bundesliga this year, with Ladbrokes having the World Cup winner at just 1/8 to bring Germany’s top league title to the BayArena come the end of the season.
Despite what could end up being a historic season for Alonso in charge of the club, the bookies have him as the favourite to take over as manager of both Liverpool and Bayern Munich this summer, but which is more likely?
Xabi Alonso odds of becoming next Bayern Munich manager
Immediately after it was announced that Thomas Tuchel wouldn’t be staying as Bayern Munich’s boss next season, it was clear that the German giants would be targeting Alonso, a former player of theirs, as their next manager.
Bayern have a history of poaching the top talent, whether that be players or managers, from their German rivals, and considering Bayer Leverkusen are expected to beat them to the title this year, it isn’t surprising to hear they want to bring Alonso to the club.
At the time of writing, the former Real Madrid midfielder is 5/2 to end up as the manager of Bayern Munich, but it’s by no means certain that he’ll end up in the dugout for the German side later on this year.
Xabi Alonso odds of becoming next Liverpool manager
As well as Bayern Munich, another of Alonso’s former clubs will be in the market for a new manager at the end of the season. Liverpool fans were shocked to learn in January that Jurgen Klopp would be stepping down from his post as boss at the end of the current campaign.
Immediately after the news dropped, fans and pundits speculated about who the next manager could be, with it being clear from the outset that Alonso was the undisputed favourite.
The bookies clearly think it’s more likely that Xabi ends up managing Liverpool than Bayern next season, with odds of 4/6 that he ends up in the home dugout at Anfield for next season.

At the end of the day, no one other than Alonso knows whether he’d prefer to remain in Germany and take over Bayern Munich, or if his loyalties to Bayer Leverkusen will mean he’s more interested in becoming Liverpool manager.
Not just that, but with a Bundesliga title likely on the horizon for Alonso at the end of the season, perhaps the young coach will want to test himself in the Premier League, which many view as the hardest and outright best league in the world.
Ladbrokes recently looked at the impact Alonso would have if he does become Liverpool manager, including his potential starting XI, and some signings that he’d look to make if he did get the job,
