Youngster right to stay at Kilmarnock despite English interest
Published:According to the Daily Mail, Greg Kiltie is set to sign a new two-and-a-half year contract at Kilmarnock to put an end to interest from potential suitors.
Hibernian are said to be monitoring the youngster, along with Brentford and Reading from the English Championship.
The 18-year-old has impressed in his four outings this season and,having made his debut when he was just 16, is clearly seen as a big prospect at Rugby Park.
Moving at this time in his career would be a huge risk as he may not be as highly valued elsewhere as he is at current club.
The Scotland U19 international especially needs to be careful of a move south of the border, with such a decision not working out for previous prospects.
Kiltie can look to two recent transfers from his club to learn about what to do in terms of staying loyal, with the moves of Matthew Kennedy and Craig Bryson contrasting experiences to learn from.
Kennedy left for Everton after only one year in Killie’s senior squad and failed to make a single appearance for the Premier League outfit.
He was loaned out three times during his three year stint at Goodison Park before being sold to Cardiff City last February.
The 21-year-old is finally starting to get some game time in Wales, but if he had stayed with Kilmarnock he’d have much more experience.
Conversely, Bryson spent four years learning his trade at Killie before leaving for Derby County in 2011.
In between this time, the club had to deal with a lot of offers for the Scotland international, but remained resolute and this was best for both parties.
Developing at Rugby Park has meant that Bryson has now gone on to become one of the best midfielders in the Championship and is a guaranteed starter for the Rams.
