Zamora in discussions with Fulham over new longer-term contract

Fulham are in discussions with Bobby Zamora in order to tie down the striker into a longer-term contract at Craven Cottage.

Zamora had been the target of former boss Roy Hodgson at Liverpool and Birmingham before the close of the transfer window, but no move of any kind materialised.

And Fulham are hopeful that their chief source of goals will sign to remain at the club beyond the end of current contract that expires in 2012.

Assistant manager Mark Bowen said: “What I know is that he is currently in discussions with the club over a possible new deal. It has been ongoing for a few months and obviously way before Mark (Hughes) and I came in.

“But my understanding is that we are hopeful Bobby will agree a long-term contract with the club.”

Zamora scored 19 goals in all competitions for Fulham last season, including eight in the Premier League and the same number in the Europa League to help his team reach the final.

He is 66/1 to end the campaign as the Premier League’s top scorer, while Fulham are 40/1 to exceed expectations and finish in the top four of the division to ensure Champions League football for next season.

Fulham are still unbeaten in the Premier League after drawing all three of their games and they will be hoping to collect their first three points in their next fixture at home to Wolves.

Hughes is 4/5 to pick up his first league win as Fulham boss, although the clash between the two at Craven Cottage last season ended goalless.
