Ladbrokes is back with yet another Paul Townend Punchestown blog, this time with the jockey previewing his rides on Saturday (day five).

Klarc Kent – 3.05 Punchestown

He ran a cracker in the Scottish National behind MacDermott. He is an improving horse and loves the staying trip. He then ran another cracker at Fairyhouse in the race before that, it was his first run in a handicap for Jody Townend in the Ladies Chase.

He was a neck behind So Des Flos and that was off a mark of 125. He is now running off a mark of 130. If the excursions in Scotland haven’t left much of a mark, he has got a live chance. We won’t know until we try.

Klarc Kent odds

Lossiemouth – 3.42 Punchestown

My big ride of the day is Lossiemouth who was obviously so impressive at Cheltenham where she beat Telmesomthinggirl. Look we have seen Galopin Des Champs and Gaelic Warrior beaten this week so nothing is a sure thing but she looks the best of these.

On ratings and what she has done on the track, she is well ahead of everyone. Her form is super, so I am really looking forward to riding her. With average luck, she should win.

Lossiemouth odds: 1/4

Glengouly – 4.15 Punchestown

He ran well until unseating Mikey O’Sullivan in the Grand National, but he took to the fences really well. Like Klarc Kent, I don’t know how much of a mark that has left on him.

He has been to Cheltenham as well before that where he was disappointing. I keep coming back to his run in the Thyestes at Gowran. That was a huge run on heavy ground. The ground here won’t be anything like that. He is still on a fair mark and I think he can run a nice race.

Kargese – 4.50 Punchestown

Willie has a big team of horses here. Kargese has danced every dance this year and is a really tough filly. She was in Leopardstown twice, then Cheltenham, and Aintree.

She has been bridesmaid the twice she went to England but behind two very good horses in Majborough and Sir Gino. She obviously doesn’t take on either of them here and on known form she looks better than the rest.

How many times can you go to the well with a juvenile filly, we will have to see. She was very keen at Aintree and there is the doubt that it is the end of a long season for her. On form, she is the best as I said.

Kargese odds: 13/8

Olympic Man – 5.25 Punchestown

He looked all over the winner at Fairyhouse the last day over three miles. We thought we had everything beat so I couldn’t believe when one came from behind and chinned me on the line. Dropping back in trip will be right up his street.

He is a horse that was very hard to train previously but Willie has got a clear run with him and he has just been improving all the time. He has gone up six pounds for being beaten at Fairyhouse but hopefully he can be improving with the handicapper. I picked him because he is the most straightforward and improving the best.
