New Liverpool boss Hodgson confident that Gerrard will stay

| 08.07.2010

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is convinced that Steven Gerrard will stay at Anfield, despite mounting speculation that the captain is on the verge of leaving.

Gerrard is crucial to Liverpool’s hopes of securing silverware, and if he is to stay, the Merseysiders could be worth backing at 14/1 to win the Premier League.

Gerrard has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield, with Real Madrid the likeliest destination, but Hodgson seems certain that the England midfielder will stay.

Hodgson said: “I anticipate there might be a situation where other big clubs will try and sign Steven, but he gave no indication that he wanted to leave.

“Nobody at the club wants him to go so I will be doing my utmost to make sure he stays. I am confident he will.”

First up for Liverpool will be Arsenal, who visit Anfield on August 15th. It will be a stern first test for Hodgson’s new side, who are 6/5 to win the fixture.
