Redknapp relieved as Modric injury not as bad as first feared

Harry Redknapp will be a relieved man after Luka Modric received the all-clear from the doctors yesterday after an X-ray confirmed the Croatian will be fit for Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League tie on Tuesday.

After a collision with Chris Brunt in the clash with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, it was feared that Modric could join Michael Dawson, Jermain Defoe and Heurelho Gomes on the sidelines with a suspected broken leg.

Not since their win against Switzerland’s Young Boys has the Spurs faithful had reason to cheer, a loss to Wigan followed by key injuries to star players during the international break and their dour stalemate with West Brom has spelled a miserable few weeks for Redknapp.

But Redknapp will be able to express a small smile this morning at the news Modric can travel to Germany today as Spurs prepare to face Werder Bremen in their first ever Champions League tie.

Modric opened the scoring against the Baggies in the 27th minute but hobbled off the field just five minutes later, and Redknapp hailed the Croatian as irreplaceable upon hearing the good news.

“Modric makes the difference,” said Redknapp, “he could play in any team anywhere in the world, you just can’t replace him.”

Spurs’ poor form will worry Redknapp as he prepares for the clash with Breman and he will need Modric, and new Signing Rafael Van der Vaart to be on top of their game if they are to win in Germany, they are 12/5 to do so.

Without Jermain Defoe, Redknapp will look to Peter Crouch to lead the line and he is 9/4 to score at anytime.

Spurs fans would take the draw if offered now and that is backable at 12/5. See the full Werder Bremen vs Tottenham Hotspur match betting market here.
