Roberts signs contract extension at League Two leaders Port Vale
Published:Gary Roberts has revealed his delight at gaining an extension on his initial contract at Port Vale which will see him remain at the early-season League Two promotion contenders until the end of the season.
Roberts gained a six-month deal at the start of the campaign after impressing in a pre-season trial and has started all six league games so far for Port Vale, in which they have won four and lost only once.
The midfielder scored the only goal as Vale claimed a 1-0 win over Aldershot in their last outing and this has left them sharing the lead at the top of League Two alongside Torquay and Shrewsbury.
His impressive performances have led to manager Micky Adams offering Roberts an improved contract until the end of the season and he is currently happy at the club.
Roberts told the Staffordshire Evening Sentinel: “I‘m pleased with the contract extension.
“I’ve been knuckling down and worked hard – this manager and football club are the right ones for me. I’m happy where I am and that’s down to hard work from myself and the manager.”
The 23-year-old added that promotion from League Two is likely to be tough this season and the club’s first goal is to retain their current position at Christmas, before focusing on the end of the campaign.
Port Vale are currently 7/1 to win League Two and will be hopeful that Marc Richards can continue to consistently find the target to boost their chances of promotion.
He is 14/1 to end the campaign as League Two’s top scorer, while fellow striker Justin Richards is valued at 20/1.
