Northampton up next for Hereford’s successful caretaker manager
Published:Hereford’s point at League Two leaders Port Vale last Saturday was the first point Jamie Pitman had earned as Hereford caretaker manager.
Considering Hereford are bottom of the league and Port Vale are the current 7/2 favourites to win League Two, it wasn’t a bad start for a man who’s only managerial experience came at Forest Green Rovers where he assisted manager Jim Harford, whilst continuing a playing role.
With Hereford chairman David Keyte in China all week, Pitman will continue to take charge of the side whilst the club’s board search for a new manager.
Pitman is currently Hereford’s physiotherapist and despite a strong performance from his side last Saturday, he is yet to apply for the Hereford job.
“Jamie has not put in an official application for the job,” said Keyte, “but the team were greatly improved against Port Vale.
“They showed a lot of passion and enterprise and got the crowd behind them.”
Northampton host Hereford on Saturday and a win for Hereford, they are 10/3 to beat Northampton, would put them just a point behind the Cobblers but still in the relegation zone.
After 11 games of the League Two season, the table is starting to take shape and Northampton fans will be unhappy to see their side languishing in 22nd place, just one point above the relegation zone.
The Cobblers finished 11th last year and the local support would’ve been hopeful of challenging for a play-off pace.
As it stands, Northampton are currently 40/1 to win League Two and 5/6 to beat Hereford on Saturday.
If they are to realise any ambitions of challenging for a play-off place, then the game against Hereford is a must-win.
