Ryder Cup fourballs to resume at 5.00pm in dry weather

Published:

Play will resume at the Celtic Manor from 5.00pm as the Ryder Cup looks to provide some entertainment for the fans who have braved the miserable weather.

Sunset is set for 6.45pm but match referee John Paramor is hopeful of play going until 7.00pm which could see the first two groups looking to make it through the turn before tonight’s finish.

That could mean that Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer, currently two-up and 1/3 to win their match against Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson, could build a strong lead to take into Saturday.

With the two middle fourballs still fairly tight, the extra few holes this evening will allow the four pairings to establish a lead heading into Saturday’s play.

Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy will be hopeful of building a strong lead against Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar and the Northern Irish pair are currently 4/9 to win the match in the Ryder Cup in-running betting market.

Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods have an immediate chance to get the match back to all square with Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher both finding trouble on the fourth hole.

Woods and Stricker were 5/6 favourites heading into the match and are now 6/4 to win the match which is probably the value of the days market.

Bubba Watson and Jeff Overton have been the highlight of the USA’s start to the Ryder Cup and the two are 4/7 to beat Luke Donald and Padraig Harrington with a current lead of two-up.

The eight-hour stoppage would’ve killed the European momentum but with so long off the course, the two teams are starting fresh and with Europe leading 3-1 at the moment, they are 1/2 to win Day One which will spill into Saturday.

USA are 12/5 to win day one. See the full 2010 Ryder Cup in-running betting odds market here.
