European qualification the main season aim for Everton

Yakubu has indicated that Everton will continue to aim higher after turning around their miserable start to the Premier League season.

David Moyes’ team were bottom of the table after failing to win any of their opening six games, but have taken ten points from their four fixtures since to climb to eighth.

Manchester City currently occupy the final Champions League spot in fourth, but a few more Everton victories could see them rapidly close the four-point gap separating the pair, with their next outing a tricky trip to Blackpool.

Yakubu feels that European football is the number one target for Everton this season, with the possibility of securing a place in the top four.

He told BBC Radio Merseyside: “Hopefully we’ll be in Europe again but we have a long way to go. We’ll keep doing the right things on the pitch and get some points.

“We know we have good players here. We don’t want to stop now. We have to fight for each other and keep training hard. Hopefully at the end of the season we’ll be pleased about our performances.”

Winning the Premier League is a big ask for Everton and odds of 200/1 support this, but they can remain on track to secure European football by gaining a result at Bloomfield Park.

Everton are 8/11 to beat Blackpool in what will be the first game between the pair since 1981.

However, the home side will be high on confidence after beating West Brom to secure a first home victory in the top flight since 1971.

Ian Holloway’s team are 3/1 to beat Everton and this result would enable them to leapfrog the opposition in the Premier League standings as they are currently level on points after ten games.

Yakubu scored his first goal since April in Everton’s recent win over Stoke and will be keen to follow up with another strike against Blackpool. See the full Blackpool vs Everton match betting odds market.
