Morecambe vs Crewe – Home side can move clear of relegation
Morecambe and Crewe Alexandra have met just twice in their footballing history and the Shrimps have a 100 per cent record against Dario Gradi’s men.
But despite doing the double over Crewe last season, Morecambe are as big as 11/8 to beat Crewe.
The 2009/10 season saw Crewe return to League Two and as Dario Gradi’s side struggled to adjust to life in League Two, Sammy McIlroy’s Morecambe side were showing plenty of promise in their challenge for a play-off spot.
When the two sides clashed in November last year at Crewe’s Gresty Road, Morecambe were languishing in 20th and Crewe were three points ahead in 15th place.
Morecambe won the game 2-1, spurring a rise up the table and when the two sides met in April in Morecambe’s 4-3 victory, Morecambe were in 10th with Crewe still stuck in 15th.
This season mirrors last season, Morecambe are in 21st place, just four points adrift of Crewe in 11th and a win for the Lancashire club may well inspire another spurt up the table.
But first McIlroy’s side must repeat their victories of last season and Morecambe are 8/1 to repeat their 2-1 victory at the same stage of last season.
Both Phil Jevons and Shaun Miller have been in great scoring form for their respective clubs, and the two head the first goalscorer market at 9/2 and 6/1.
Jevons scored twice against Crewe last year and will be relishing another chance to run the Crewe defence ragged and Jevons to score first with a 2-1 win for Morecambe is priced at 28/1.
Four of the ten goals last season came in the first half and Morecambe are 10/3 to be leading at half-time and leading at full-time.
A £10 stake on Shaun Miller to score first but Morecambe to win 2-1 would return £670. New customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
