Arsenal and Spurs handed worst English Champions League draws

Arsenal are going to have to do it the hard way if they want to win the Champions League this season after drawing Barcelona in the last 16, just as manager Arsene Wenger predicted.

Wenger’s team have never beaten Barcelona in the tournament and were eliminated by the Catalan giants in the quarter finals of the competition last season, as well as in the final in 2006.

The draw has seen Arsenal’s price to win the Champions League lengthen to 28/1 despite the fact that they should have no motivational issues to gain a measure of revenge, while Barcelona remain the favourites in the betting odds at 5/2.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have also been handed a tough assignment as they have been drawn alongside current Serie A leaders AC Milan.

Milan were potentially the toughest team Spurs could have faced in the last 16, but their performances against Inter Milan in Group A will give them confidence that they can reach the quarter finals.

Tottenham’s betting odds are now 25/1 to win the Champions League.

Manchester United will be relatively pleased with their draw as they prepared to take on French side Marseille.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s team may have to be slightly careful as Marseille have already beaten Chelsea in the group stages of the competition this season, but they will fancy their chances of reaching the quarter finals.

The Champions League betting odds have seen Manchester United shorten from 8/1 into 6/1 to win the tournament, although they remain fourth favourites.

Finally, Chelsea were given the easiest assignment of the English clubs as they prepare to take on Champions League outsiders FC Copenhagen.

Chelsea’s price to win the Champions League has marginally moved from 9/2 to 4/1 as they continue their quest to emerge victorious in the competition for the first time ever.
