Pardew massive favourite to be named next Newcastle boss

Alan Pardew is in line to become Newcastle United manager within the next 48 hours.

Pardew is rumoured to have become friendly with Magpies chairman Mike Ashley after meeting several times at a London casino and is now in to 1/4 to take over at Newcastle.

It’s hardly the big name appointment that would have calmed the Toon Army, but Pardew at least has something in common with his predecessor Chris Hughton.

Pardew was also harshly sacked earlier this season after guiding Southampton to the Johnstone’s Pain Trophy and to within touching distance of the League One play-offs – despite a ten point deduction.

He also took West Ham to the Cup Final before being ousted from that job in controversial circumstances.

He is well ahead of second favourite for the job, Alan Curbishley, who is 7/1, while Martin Jol – who has been heavily tipped after leaving his Ajax post – is out at 10/1.

Perhaps the most surprising name in the frame is that of Ray Wilkins. The former Chelsea assistant manager is 8/1 for the role, despite having not managed a team in over ten years.

A £10 bet on Martin Jol being next Newcastle boss pays out £80. New customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
