Bet on Sturridge to score as Chelsea consider Drogba axe

Betting on Daniel Sturridge to score at any time within the 90 minutes in Chelsea’s next Premier League game with Blackburn could be great value as he is set to get the nod in attack ahead of Didier Drogba.

Drogba has only managed two goals in his last 13 league outings and it is reported that manager Carlo Ancelotti is considering dropping the striker in the hope of sparking a return to his best form.

If Drogba is condemned to the bench, then Sturridge is the player likely to benefit and will be keen to make an impact in a rare start.

Sturridge has made just two Premier League starts in his 18 months at Chelsea, but showed his capabilities with a double in the recent 7-0 demolition of Ipswich in the FA Cup.

It is 5/4 that Sturridge scores at any time, while he is 5/1 to open the scoring against Blackburn.

Whether to select Drogba is one of many conundrums facing Ancelotti as the whole of his attacking force has failed to set the world alight since the start of the season.

Florent Malouda is also up for the axe after being equally as disappointing as Drogba, while although Nicolas Anelka has arguably been playing a little better, he has found the net just once in the league since August.

Chelsea’s betting odds are 2/7 to beat Blackburn, who have failed to win at Stamford Bridge in the last seven seasons.

Meanwhile, Blackburn have not scored away to Chelsea in four seasons and will need to end this barren run if they are to defy odds of 9/1 and claim the three points that could spell the end of Ancelotti’s spell as Chelsea manager.

A £25 bet on the scorecast of Sturridge scoring first and Chelsea beatin Blackburn 2-0 could see a return of £500. New Ladbrokes customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
