Birmingham face relegation battle as Newcastle pull clear

It wasn’t the best of times for Birmingham City to lose just their third game at home since October 2009, and Alex McLeish’s side now linger perilously close to the relegation zone.

McLeish has been under pressure all season as Birmingham fail to reproduce the form that saw them finish ninth last season, and last night’s defeat to Newcastle leaves Birmingham available at 7/2 to be relegated.

Five teams are shorter in the relegation betting than Birmingham and Wigan remain the well supported favourites at 1/2, but with just three points separating Wigan in 18th and Everton in 13th, there are still plenty of candidates for the drop.

Birmingham face a huge game with local rivals West Bromwich Albion in their next Premier League fixture, and it could go a long way to decide the fates of both sides in this relegation race.

The Blues have the advantage of playing at home but face a West Brom team that will be managed for the first time by Roy Hodgson.

West Brom are in to 6/4 to be relegated following an awful run of form that has seen them take five points from their last 33 available, resulting in the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo, and at the current relegation odds, they look the value bet to be relegated.

A loss for either side will be detrimental to their hopes of staying in the Premier League, and West Brom fans will be starting to worry about their Premier League status.

West Ham United (4/7) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (4/6) are currently odds-on for relegation, but with things being so tight at the bottom, one win could see either side go odds-against.

Blackpool are the other side that should be peering over their shoulder and are 5/4 to be relegated.

A £25 stake on West Brom being relegated would return £62.50. New customers can sign up here for a free bet worth £25.
