Rangers vs Sporting Lisbon – Rangers to take lead to Lisbon

Published:

Having fallen out of the Champions League, Rangers have been handed a second chance of European silverware although Sporting Lisbon will prove no pushovers.

Sporting are third in the Primeira Liga table, 12 points behind Benfica in second, and head to Ibrox on the back of three games in which they’ve failed to register a win while Rangers are unbeaten in five.

Match Odds

The two sides met in the 2008 Europa League group stage and while Rangers managed a 2-0 win in Lisbon, the match at Ibrox ended in a 0-0 stale mate and a repeat of the draw is priced at 11/5.

But this will be the fifth European fixture between the two sides and Rangers have won both of the knockout ties which were played at Ibrox leaving Rangers a huge price at 5/4 to beat Sporting.

Rangers fans will be glad to hear that on the two times they have knocked out Sporting, they have gone on to reach the European final.

Total Goals

After thumping Motherwell 6-0 at the weekend and drawing with Celtic 2-2 the week before, it’s safe to say that the Rangers attack is in great form and Steven Naismith looks the pick of the strikers at 7/1 to get the first goal.

Sporting only managed three goals away from home in the Europa League group stages, and while they have scored five in their last two games, they travel to a stadium where teams have difficulty scoring.

Just four goals were witnessed at Ibrox in the Champions League and under 2.5 goals looks more than likely and is priced at 4/6.

The confidence flowing through the Rangers squad means they should be able to take a lead to Lisbon and they are 5/2 to win to nil and 5/1 to win the match 1-0.

A £25 stake on Naismith scoring first and Rangers winning 1-0 would return £725. New customers can sign up here for a free bet worth £25.
