Revived Chelsea firmly back in Premier League title hunt

Carlo Ancelotti has conceded that it is out of Chelsea’s hands if they are to win the Premier League title, but if they continue to win what look like tricky away games on paper, then they have to be given more than a decent chance.

Chelsea’s betting odds to win the Premier League were cut from 7/1 to 6/1 after they won 4-2 at Sunderland, which represented their third league victory on the bounce.

This was particularly impressive as it was only Sunderland’s second defeat at the Stadium of Light the season, while in their last away game, Chelsea took three points from another team who have largely been solid at home, Bolton.

Despite the victory, Chelsea remain ten points adrift of leaders Manchester United and although this is a big gap to expect to close, Ancelotti knows that a title win is still possible.

And there are still some scenarios that are yet to pan out that could have a major say on the whereabouts of the title.

Firstly, Chelsea are still to hand debuts to big-money January recruits Fernando Torres and David Luiz, with the former particularly showing in the past an ability to score important goals and a vast number of them.

Meanwhile, Chelsea still have to play Manchester United in the league twice and by simply winning these two games they can close the gap to their rivals to four points.

Furthermore, Manchester United do have some other potential banana skins in which there is a large likelihood that they will fail to win.

An away trip to Anfield to play Liverpool looks like a candidate for dropped points, while they also have to travel to Arsenal, Newcastle and Blackburn.
