Rose looks sparkling Masters bet to be top Englishman

| 06.04.2011

Justin Rose believes his game is in great shape ahead of the US Masters and therefore he looks a solid candidate to be the leading English challenger at Augusta.

Rose is 4/1 in the US Masters odds to be the top English player and given the strength of his last 12 months on the PGA Tour, he has a fine chance of securing a first major victory.

A change of coach to Sean Foley in the past year has reaped massive rewards, with two victories in a month on the PGA Tour last summer.

Meanwhile, he has been the model of consistency this year, making the cut in all eight tournaments and going on to finish in the top 25 on seven occasions, alongside featuring in third in the PGA Tour statistics in terms of greens hit in regulation.

His Masters record in the past is also reasonably strong and Rose has been called an Augusta specialist in some quarters.

Rose led the Masters after two rounds in 2004, while also holding the first-round advantage in both 2007 and 2008.

This form also makes Rose a contender to win the US Masters at 33/1, while 25/1 looks good value that he is at the top of the leaderboard after the opening 18 holes.

Of the other English challengers, Luke Donald has been the focus of much of the significant each-way money and is 25/1 in the Masters odds to secure victory.

Donald is 3/1 to finish as top Englishman, which is the second shortest price in this market behind Lee Westwood at 7/4.

However, Westwood has failed to finish in the top ten in any of his seven worldwide starts in 2011, which is not the best form heading into Augusta.

A £20 stake on Ian Poulter finishing the Masters as the top English player would return £130. New customers can sign up here to take advantage of free bets totalling up to £60.
