Mosley KO could finally lead to Pacquiao vs Mayweather

Shane Mosley has never been stopped in 54 professional fights, but if Manny Pacquiao can be the first to accomplish this feat then his eagerly-anticipated future showdown with Floyd Mayweather could be one step closer to taking place.

Pacquiao is 1/12 in the boxing odds to successfully defend his WBO welterweight title against Mosley and his superior speed and stamina should ensure that this outcome is easily achieved.

Many boxing fans believe that the Filipino champion has little to gain from the fight, as he is taking on a 39-year-old who is past is best and noticeably slower than in his peak.

However, a stoppage victory would still prove a notable scalp, especially as it was something that Mayweather failed to achieve when he secured a unanimous points victory over Mosley early last year.

Pacquiao has already outshone Mayweather in his victories over Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton and a stoppage win over Mosley would complete the treble.

Mosley has been defeated six times in his career, but each of these have come via the scorecards of the ringside judges.

Pacquiao has indicated that he is not expecting anything and is training as though the fight will go for the full 12 rounds, but trainer Freddie Roach has indicated that a stoppage victory is the main target.

Roach said: “I think all fights should end in knockouts so I’m looking for a knockout. But if you want him to be more specific as to why, allow him to spell it out for you.

“It would be incredible for Manny to be the first one to stop him and just prove to the world how much better he is than that guy that couldn’t stop him (Floyd Mayweather, Jr.).”

It is 8/13 that Pacquiao defeats Mosley by knockout, while it is 7/4 that he secures victory by decision.

A £30 stake on Pacquiao stopping Mosley in the first round would return £600. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
