Jason Quigley: Cameron will be much tougher for Taylor than Serrano

Jason Quigley returns to action against unbeaten super middleweight Edgar Berlanga at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 24, but before then the Irish boxer took time out to preview Katie Taylor’s first professional fight in her home country.

Taylor, stepping up to light-welterweight, is attempting to emulate Claressa Shields in becoming an undisputed two-weight world champion at the 3Arena in Dublin.

Pressure on Taylor to deliver in Dublin

It took a lot longer for Katie Taylor to have her homecoming than expected but it is finally here.

With the controversy surrounding Croke Park, I think Katie may have felt underwhelmed that it wasn’t there. However, now that the time is here, there is a great buzz.

Chantelle Cameron is an undisputed champion at the weight above and I think this is a harder fight for Katie than the Serrano fight. There is a lot of pressure on Katie for this one because of the opponent and the change of arena.

Anyone who was lucky enough to get a ticket for this fight is going to have the boxing experience of their lives. It is going to be special. Matchroom, DAZN and her manager Brian Peters do things 100% and they will make sure this is an unbelievable event.

Katie is one of the most professional and grounded people you will meet. In fact she is even more so a champion outside the ring. She is going to feel the pressure and the emotion more than ever before with this being at home. Once the bell rings though, I believe the nerves will go out of the window and she will be a few levels better than what she already is. The home support just drives you on another gear which she may not have shown before.

I can totally see why the betting is close. Katie is moving up in weight and Chantelle is naturally the biggest fighter and is the undisputed champion at the weight above. This is a very dangerous fight for Katie.

I am team Katie 100% and I can’t see another winner in this. Katie will win on points. I can’t see her stopping Chantelle though. Katie has gone the distance on a lot of her recent fights and she hasn’t shown that type of power to knock someone cold.

Chantelle could make it a very difficult fight for Katie after the first half which will be a controlled, comfortable performance from Katie in which she will outbox Chantelle and get a lot of things her own way. After the fourth or fifth round, Chantelle will really put the pressure on and finish strong.

In personal terms,Β I am really excited about fighting at Madison Square Gardens next month. It is a place every professional boxer wants to tick off their list. It is a great opportunity for me. Although whether I was fighting in a field in Donegal or MSG, it wouldn’t matter. There is a job at hand and I have to take care of business. The end goal is to become world champion.
