UEFA Hungary for a successful Champions League final on Saturday

Published:

Hungary will play their part in Saturday’s Champions League final between the two best sides in England and Spain with the announcement that Viktor Kassai will be the referee.

The Hungarian official is well known to Manchester United as Kassai took charge of their group stage match in Valencia, and this will be Kassai’s sixth Champions League match of the season.

Kassai had a quiet game in Valencia, brandishing the sole yellow card for Aritz Aduriz in the 90th minute, but in the other four Champions League games he has refereed this season, he has brandished 24 yellows.

At an average of five cards a game the odds for individual players to pick up bookings are looking very tempting.

Scholes and Vidic are both 5/4 to be booked at any time while Dani Alves, Javier Mascherano, Gerard Pique, Rafael and Fabio are all 11/8.

Pique has picked up 11 yellows and one red card in La Liga with three bookings in the Champions League and punters are pretty much buying money at 11/8 to see Pique shown a yellow card.

Punters can find more enticing odds to see a player sent off and of the 22 players on the pitch on Saturday, Nemanja Vidic looks the most likely at 14/1, although Kassai has never sent off a player in the Champions League this season.

Fans of Manchester United will be pleased to know that late goals are a regular occurrence in games that Kassai officiates in, and of the five Champions League games this season, four goals have come in the 89th minute or later and eight goals have come in the 80th minute or later.

The second half is 11/10 to produce the most goals in the match while the first goal of the game is 18/1 to come between the 80th minute and full time.
