West Ham set target as punters flock to back Jones to fill hotseat
The Cardiff City board may be reviewing Dave Jones’ position as manager, but by the time they come to a decision it may be too late.
West Ham United are eyeing up Jones to replace Avram Grant as their manager and the Cardiff boss has been backed in to 1/2 from 7/1 with punters believing they are on to a winner.
Jones is set to meet with the Cardiff City board this week to hold talks over his future and the direction Cardiff City want to go in, but having missed out on promotion once again, Jones has come under pressure from the fans to depart.
Next manager betting markets are usually pretty volatile but the money that is being placed on Jones replacing Grant shouldn’t be ignored.
The appointment of Jones wouldn’t be a popular choice with the Hammers fans but the choices are limited now West Ham are a Championship club.
The next West ham manager betting features the likes of Sam Allardyce (8/1) and Martin O’Neill (9/1), but both of these managers would target a job in the Premier League and seem unlikely to be willing to drop a division.
Chris Hughton remains solid at 4/1 and he and Jones are easily the most likely to replace Grant.
There was talk of Alex McLeish (9/1) making the journey south but the Birmingham board want McLeish in charge next season and the man himself has said he doesn’t want to leave.
The West Ham fans may be clamouring for a big name replacement but realistically Dave Jones and Chris Hughton are the most suitable candidates for the job.
Now the Cardiff board realise their manager is wanted by a bigger club, they may step up their efforts to keep him and Hughton remains the value in the next West Ham manager odds.
A £10 stake on Hughton replacing Grant would return £50. Sign up here to take advantage of a free bet worth up to £30.
