Star of the year 10/1 to get man of the match in second Test

The English and Wales Cricket Board have named Jonathan Trott as their cricketer of the year, as chosen by the British media.

Trott was instrumental in the Ashes victory in Australia this winter and was just edged out of the man of the series award by Alastair Cook, but it’s his consistent form over all formats of the game over the past 12 months that has impressed the watching media.

The South African-born Englishman has seen his Test average rise to 66.77 and his one-day international average is an impressive 55.65, and after a double century in the first Test of the summer against Sri Lanka, the batsman is on the tip of everyone’s tongue.

Lords is preparing to host the second Test between England and Sri Lanka which starts on Friday and you can guarantee Trott will be in amongst the runs against a novice Sri Lankan batting line-up.

Trott is 10/1 to win the man of the match award in the second Test and his double century in the first Test makes him a worthy favourite.

Batting at number three, Trott is ahead of Cook and Andrew Strauss in the betting to be England’s top first innings runscorer and you can back the cricketer of the year at 3/1.

Cook is 7/2 with Strauss available alongside Kevin Pietersen at 4/1 but considering Trott is 11/10 to score a 50 and 7/2 to get a century, the smart money is in backing Trott.

Following Sri Lanka’s incredible batting collapse in the first Test, England are the strong 8/13 favourites to win the second Test and having watched Graeme Swann and Chris Tremlett destroy their batting attack, it’s hard to argue otherwise
