Cole tells Villas-Boas how to guide Chelsea to Champions League

Ashley Cole has told Andre Villas-Boas that he only needs to bring a few young squad players to Stamford Bridge this summer if he wants to lead the team to Champions League glory in his first season as manager.

Injuries midway through the season to key players including Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Alex were big moments in Chelsea’s season and were part of the reason that they ended the campaign empty handed in their search for trophies.

This is in stark contrast to two years ago when Chelsea completed the domestic Premier League and FA Cup double.

One criticism labelled at Chelsea is that they have failed to deal with their ageing squad, with players now in their 30s still making up the majority of the first team.

However, Cole does not believe that this is a bad thing and if Villas-Boas can identify some talented youngsters to join Chelsea then they will certainly be challenging for silverware this season.

He said: “We just fell short last season, we had a lot of injuries so hopefully if we do bring players in we can strengthen the squad and kick on because we’ve got so many great players in Chelsea.

“We have very professional players at Chelsea and if we can add to that with maybe some younger players I don’t see why we can’t improve on last season and win the league, win the Champions League and win the FA Cup because we’ve got the players to do it.”

It is 5/2 in the Premier League odds that Chelsea win the title, while they have been backed into 11/2 favourites to win the FA Cup and 7/1 in the Champions League betting.

There are also some Chelsea specials available and it is 100/1 that Villas-Boas leads the club to the treble of the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
