Redknapp interested in bringing ex-Arsenal striker to Spurs

| 20.07.2011

Tottenham have been in the hunt for a new striker for much of the summer transfer window and manager Harry Redknapp has indicated that he would be willing to bring Emmanuel Adebayor to the club, but only on loan.

Adebayor is one of the high earners that Manchester City are keen to get off their books, but finding a club that are willing to match his salary demands and pay around £10m for the striker has so far proven difficult.

The Togo forward spent the second half of last season on loan at Real Madrid and although the stint went fairly well, Jose Mourinho has turned down the chance to make the deal permanent at present, particularly with Neymar remaining the number one target.

However, Real Madrid may accept a similar loan agreement to last season, which is something that also interests Tottenham.

Redknapp said: “He is a name that was mentioned and I spoke to the chairman about the player, about the possibility of loaning him, but whether they [City] would loan him I don’t know.

“If they would loan him he would be of interest. He is a quality player. We will wait and see.”

Adebayor is already among the most hated players of Arsenal fans after demanding a move from the Emirates and then running the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of them when scoring for Manchester City.

A move to Tottenham would be the icing on the cake to really seal his hatred, particularly if he scored a late winner in a North London derby.

Tottenham are 11/4 in the Premier League odds to finish in the top four this season and the capture of Adebayor would be a boost to their chances.

The safer Premier League bet would be the 2/7 that they finish inside the top six for the third successive season.
