Aston Villa vs Wolves: Villa to end 100 per cent start of midland rivals

Published:

Both Aston Villa and Wolves have made impressive starts to the current season to sit in the top four of the Premier League standings and it is the hosts who can extend their unbeaten run to three games and take the three points.

Match Odds

Wolves have begun the campaign with back-to-back victories and also beat Aston Villa for the first time in 31 years last season when a Matt Jarvis goal handed them a 1-0 victory in this corresponding fixture.

However, Wolves have not won three successive away games in the top flight since 1980 and will face a Villa side who have looked far more solid this season under new boss Alex McLeish.

This could be a massive bonus as no team dropped more points from winning positions last season than Aston Villa and this is something that McLeish will be eager to eradicate.

Villa are unbeaten at home since losing to Wolves in March and have only lost one of their last ten Premier League matches across the final two campaigns.

The Premier League odds have Aston Villa as favourites at 10/11, while Wolves may be seen as overpriced by some at 3/1, particularly as they are expected to name an unchanged team to that which beat Fulham in their last league encounter.

Backing the draw may also prove popular at 12/5.

First Goalscorer

Darren Bent has seven goals in his last ten Premier League starts and is already up and running in the current campaign thanks to his strike against Blackburn.

With both Gabriel Agbonlahor and Emile Heskey doubtful after suffering minor injuries in this victory, Bent certainly looks the obvious selection to score first at 4/1.

For Wolves, Kevin Doyle is their chief goal threat and is 8/1 to be first goalscorer, although it may be worth a punt on Jamie O’Hara at 14/1.
