Opinion Poll offers best chance of victory in Ascot odds

Fame And Glory’s recent troubles have given Godolphin renewed optimism that Opinion Poll will take all the beating in the Long Distance Cup at Ascot.

Despite being on the go for virtually all of the last year after starting his season early in Dubai, Opinion Poll has remained largely consistent.

Arguably, his big breakthrough came at Royal Ascot when pushing Fame And Glory all the way to the line in the Ascot Gold Cup and he has since won both the Goodwood Cup and Lonsdale Cup, which is run at York.

In the same timeframe, Fame And Glory has twice disappointed at the Curragh, albeit both runs were over the slightly shorter distance of 1m6f.

He was especially disappointing when fading quickly and early in the Irish St Leger and although he should relish to step back up to 2m, there is the argument that he should be put away now for the season.

Godolphin’s racing manager Simon Crisford said: “We are very happy with Opinion Poll. Looking at the entries, I would say he could win the race.

“The reason why we fancy him is because Fame And Glory hasn’t reproduced what we saw at Royal Ascot. He’s consistent, honest and he’d have a good chance.”

Opinion Poll is 5/2 in the Ascot odds to win the Long Distance Cup, while Fame And Glory is a big price at 3/1 if rediscovering his best form from earlier this summer.

A lack of Ascot runners for Godolphin means that Opinion Poll potentially represents their best hope of victory on Champions Day, although Dubai Prince has solid prospects in the Champion Stakes.

Dubai Prince is currently 9/1 to win the Champion Stakes, where he will put his unbeaten record on the line against opposition including So You Think and Nathaniel.
