FA Cup 2nd round: Oldham lead selections at generous price

Published:

Inconsistency has plagued Oldham’s campaign so far, and their position of 16th in League One epitomises that.

They meet League Two side Southend at Boundary Park, who despite sitting 2nd in the table, have faltered recently, suffering defeats in their past two matches against promotion rivals.

The teams played out a 1-1 draw at Roots Hall but the home side, eager to earn a money-spinning trip to Liverpool, should have enough to progress here at 6/5.

Grimsby go in to their home tie with Blue Square North outfit Salisbury in a rich vein of form, keeping four consecutive clean sheets and without defeat in ten games.

Home advantage should see them improve on the 0-0 draw they achieved in the first match the teams played out, and they can be backed at 4/7 to earn a trip to Bramall Lane in the Third Round.

Yeovil Town face a potential banana skin fixture in the shape of Blue Square Premier challengers Fleetwood Town.

The visitors are a big 2/1 to win at Huish Park, and will go there with no fear having lost just once in eleven games, desperate to secure a derby tie with Blackpool in the next round.

The home side, 5/4 to win, threw away a two goal lead in the first clash, and although they have shown improvements in the league in recent weeks, could find it difficult should they not gain an early lead.

Walsall meet Dagenham & Redbridge in a clash of two out-of-form teams, and the Saddlers should do enough to get past the League Two basement men on home soil at 4/6, buoyed by a point against league leaders Charlton over the weekend.

Millwall await the winners.

Elsewhere, Macclesfield will meet a spirited Chelmsford outfit, who, whilst impressive in taking the lead in the first leg of the match, tired in the 1-1 draw.

The League Two outfit should set up a home clash with Bolton, and are priced 8/11 to do so.
