Hanson leads but Mickelson is the one to back at the Masters
Published:Phil Mickelson heads into the final round of the Masters one shot back and favourite for the title at 11/8.
The 41-year-old shot a brilliant third round 66 to move to eight-under par and, unsurprisingly, it’s on the greens that Mickelson has been able to peg back the field.
The Californian said: “It’s been so good, it’s been the best I’ve had in my career probably, putting.
“I really worked hard in the offseason and made a real commitment to what I was doing. All year it’s been great, but this week on these greens where I know the breaks and they roll so true, it’s been really good.”
Mickelson is still a shot behind Peter Hanson though and the Swede is 7/2 to still be at the top of the leaderboard after 72 holes following his third round 65 – the lowest score of the week.
However, Mickelson has shown in the past that he has the game to come from behind in the final round at Augusta and win.
His last victory in 2010 saw him peg back Lee Westwood who was one shot ahead going into Sunday and it’s hard to see beyond a win for Mickelson who has already won on the PGA Tour in 2012.
If you like your odds a little bit longer though, then 2010 Open champion, Louis Oosthuizen, is two back and can be backed at 6/1, although this is the first time he’s even made the cut at Augusta.
A better bet may be to back Bubba Watson. The big-hitting American has been solid all week but will surely have to go lower than his best round of 69 if he is to seriously compete.
He can be backed at 8/1 to claim his maiden major title.
